A happy ending to a potentially ruined rug.

You may have heard of similar experiences such as the couple who bought a new home and bought their first Oriental rug for their family room. Since most of the family activities, as well as entertainment, took place in that room, it obviously received a lot of wear.

Their Oriental rug also received a lot of compliments and admiration from everyone who saw it. In the beginning, some people who saw the rug admired it so much they asked if they could bring their friends to see it!  You can imagine how good it made the couple feel! But, after a while, reality took over.  In just a couple of years, even with regular vacuuming, a lot of dust and dirt accumulated deep in the threads of the rug.

So they called in a "professional Oriental rug cleaner" from the Yellow Pages who cleaned and shampooed the rug. When the rug was returned, it looked somewhat better but the sharpness of the colors and the texture of the fiber was not nearly as nice as it was originally.

But, since they had a "professional Oriental rug cleaner" care for their rug, they thought that was the best they could expect. Obviously, with the faded colors and the deeply embedded dirt, the value of the rug was reduced considerably and the compliments quickly stopped.  One day, the couple visited one of our clients who had an Oriental rug that was a year older than theirs. They looked at the rug and said, "Oh, I see you bought a new Oriental rug!" "We didn’t. This is the same one we’ve always had. Why would you think it’s new?"  "Because yours looks like new and ours is showing its age. What’s your secret?"
